Our journey and interest in Bengal cats began many years ago when we adopted a rescue kitten and brought her home only to find that our entire family was highly allergic to her. Thus began our hunt for cats considered less allergic than comparable breeds. After considering a few varieties, and speaking with different pet owners, we made the decision to purchase a Bengal. Since we were very drawn to their exotic look and unique personalities, we spent years learning about Bengals and researching top Bengal breeders around the country before making our purchase.
After putting a deposit on a champion bred female kitten from Washington, a male show kitten became available from a top show cattery in Florida. We could not resist either, so we bought both kittens. Romeo was our first kitten. He was simply perfection personified, as he was super lovable and breathtakingly stunning in beauty. Romeo has exotic green eyes, a luxurious pelt, and deep red and black rosettes. Best of all, no one in our family was allergic to him!
While no cat is truly hypoallergenic, studies suggest that certain breeds may contain less allergens than other breeds. The main allergen component being the glycoproteins contained in their saliva, urine, and coat dander. Since Bengals have a pelt, less dander accumulates and less grooming is required. While the results may vary with each individual, we are happy to report that our family has not been allergic to any of our Bengal cats.
Bengals are very intelligent, highly active, and extremely entertaining. Our Bengals follow us around our house, love rides in the car, and even walk on leashes. Like lap dogs, they want to be with you all the time. They are also demanding of your attention. These characteristics are important for you to know before buying a Bengal kitten because you will spend the next 12-16 years dedicated to fulfilling their unique needs.
